Re: Managed to work in to Leicester this morning. Sunday 23rd Jan

Well band was up this Morning I managed to copy Peter in Coalville Leicester, from my home location in Stoke on Trent. There was a lot of fading but we established a contact so well pleased. My location is quite low down so was great to make it to Leicester with 1W. OH I was using a 5/8 x 3 vertica...

You can place it inside plastic waste pipe for outside mounting.

Great design and would be discreet for outdoor mounting, any ideas on the SWR values you get from this design?

Helicopter on PMR446!

Recently my friend Geoff took a helicopter (r66) ride to Tan Hill Inn, He brought his Baofeng along with him tuned to the PMR frequencies on low-power. Most transmissions were broadcast only since he could not hear the responses due to the engine noise.. He had signal reports from all over Yorkshire...

Re: Hearing more DMR on 446.

So DMR446 is on the exact same frequencies as PMR446? And is it also licence exempt or not? As most DMR radios are higher power. So is DMR legal on 446 under licence exemption or do you need a private licence. If it is licence free I can see PMR446 being overrun with digital? Can anyone clarify the...

Re: PMR Channel 8, calling channel?

The YPMR lot tend to use 8 but when it becomes a garbled mess of clowns then use 14 as an alternative. Yes, less people have radios with 9-16 but that's kinda the point, you're less likey to get mike keyers and music players on the higher channels and that if people are "in to" PMR then t...

Download the zip file here alinco_dj500_pmr446.zip , extract the .dat and .fr file. Then go to file - > open in the DJ-500 soft...

Tuning into Satellites using the L-band antenna

In the past few months, I have owned a rtl-sdr blog l-band patch antenna. It allows you to receive many satellite transmissions in the L-BAND range (Roughly 1.5 GHZ) I've been astonished to the type of traffic you can receive using one of these antennas, from marine messages to aircraft calling over...
